Abstract
Recently, the number of Websites using
LOCALBASE via the HTTP Gateway function is increasing. Some examples are listed below.
Maps displayed on these Websites can be downloaded and viewed by COSMOS and overlapped with your own favorite maps etc. This section explains how to download and view maps on the Web in COSMOS via the gateway function.

[Step 1] Accessing Websites Using HTTP Gateway
Although it may vary depending on the design from one Website developer to the next, the standard HTTP gateway page looks like shown in
Fig.(Standard HTTP Gateway) and
Fig.(Name of Each Component of Standard HTTP Gateway) . It can be accessed by a standard Web browser. If a @Backtrack@ to COSMOS button or similar is available somewhere on the page, maps and images displayed can be downloaded and viewed in COSMOS.

Some standard HTTP Gateway pages also provide a button for downloading COSMOS installers. If you have not installed COSMOS on your PC already, it is necessary to use the button to download COSMOS in advance.

[Step 2] Downloading COSMOS (If Required)
|
[MEMO]
If you have already installed COSMOS, proceed to "Backtrack". |
Check that the Dedicated Browser ( COSMOS) Download button shows the COSMOS version matching your operating system. If it indicates a different operating system, you can select the correct COSMOS version from the pull-down menu as shown in
Fig.(Drop-down Menu for Selecting Appropriate OS Version) .

After selecting the appropriate version, click the Download button. The COSMOS installer is downloaded to the directory predetermind by your browser, which in most cases is the desktop. Install the downloaded COSMOS according to
"COSMOS Installation (WindowsXP)",
"COSMOS Installation (MacOSX)"or
"COSMOS Installation (POSIX)", whichever appropriate.

[Step 3] Backtrack
Click the @Backtrack to COSMOS@ button on the Website. A @Backtrack@ text box appears, containing a complicated character string, and the browser asks you whether or not to download the file that includes the backtrack information. This dialog could for instance look as shown in
Fig.(In Case of FireFox) .

Click the Download button. Some browsers ask you whether or not to open the file after downloading. In this case, click the Run or Open button. In case of FireFox, the download inspector shown in
Fig.(In Case of FireFox) appears; click the Open button.

[Step 4] Viewing the Web Page in COSMOS
If COSMOS is not running already, COSMOS starts up and the same page as the HTTP Gatewate page appears, as shown in
Fig.(Page Reproduced by COSMOS) . If COSMOS is already running, the page is displayed in the COSMOS viewer.
If the Replace Mode is selected in the
Warp menu , previously opened maps are discarded from the COSMOS browser window and the maps on the HTTP gateway page are displayed instead. If the Insert Mode is selected, COSMOS tries to overlap the maps of the HTTP Gateway page on top of the currently displayed maps. In order for COSMOS to be able to overlap them, there must be direct or indirect links between the maps of the HTTP Gateway page and the maps previously displayed in COSMOS on the server. This means that the overlapping operation may not succeed every time. If it fails, the previously opened maps are discarded and the maps on the HTTP gateway page are displayed instead, in the same way as in the Replace Mode.

Please note that the @backtrack@ function may not always work properly for reasons of browser incompatibility, presence of firewalls, antivirus software or similar. In such cases, proceed to
"auCOSMOSbヶbレcgcicbcNcocbcNavbュpさoΏbラcgcicbcNcocbcNbュbきbヨbかbメbたoΌmg". In such cases, copy the character string in the @Backtrack@ text box and paste it into COSMOS to reproduce the HTTP Gateway page in COSMOS.
First, launch COSMOS in advance as shown in
Fig.(Launched COSMOS) .

Fig.(Copying Track Back Information on HTTP Gateway) ). Next, bring the COSMOS window to the foreground, click on the map to place the focus on the map and paste the character string (
Fig.(Clicking on COSMOS Map and Pasting) ). After a while, the same map is reproduced in the COSMOS window, see
Fig.(Page Reproduced by COSMOS) .
